Your controller and your UI are yours again
The launcher no longer overwrites your controller buttons at launch — your own FFXI pad settings now apply, or map every button in the launcher itself. UI size, font quality, texture quality and more are now real settings, and the forced 1600×900 UI that made everything blurry is gone. Plus a squad window toggle for when your trusts join the fight.
Three complaints, one update.
Your controller buttons stop being overwritten. Until tonight, every launch quietly wrote a fixed button layout over whatever you had set up in FFXI's own config tool — and there was no way to change it. That's over. By default the launcher now passes your own Windows-side FFXI pad configuration through untouched. And if you'd rather set it up without ever opening the old config tool, flip Settings → Controller → Set in launcher and map every button right there — Xbox and PlayStation starting layouts included, with each game action (attack, menus, macros, camera) labelled by the actual button on your pad.
The UI is adjustable — and sharper by default. The game's menus, chat and HUD were being rendered at a fixed 1600×900 and stretched to whatever window you actually play in, which is why text looked soft on a 1440p or 4K screen no matter what you tried. The UI buffer now matches your window by default (sharpest), and a new UI size setting scales it up in steps to 200% if you want bigger menus and chat. While we were in there, more of the game's real options became launcher settings: font quality (now high quality by default — this alone cleans up most of the "blurry text" reports), texture quality, on-screen map sharpness, environment animation, hardware mouse, graphics stabilization, and sound in the background. Everything applies at your next launch — per account too, if you use per-account overrides.
Trusts: fight now, or fight when I do. After tonight's server maintenance, the squad window (/squad) grows a checkbox: "Trusts engage when you draw your weapon." On, your trusts pile in the moment you engage. Off, they hold back until your first swing actually lands — retail's way, and still the default. It's the same as typing !trustengage 1 or 0; the box just remembers to tell you it exists.
The launcher updates itself: restart it and the new version installs on its own. Your existing settings carry over unchanged — nothing needs setting up again.
