Verify your game files, and point the launcher at any FFXI install
Launcher 0.9.1 turns on Verify Game Files -- the server now publishes a manifest of every file in a known-good FFXI install, and the launcher can hash yours against it and say exactly what differs. And if your FFXI lives somewhere unusual, you can now point the launcher straight at it, during setup or any time after.
Two quality-of-life pieces land together in launcher 0.9.1.
Verify Game Files is live
The server now publishes a manifest of a known-good FFXI install -- 65,063 files, 13.87 GB, every one with its size and SHA-256. In Settings → Game files, the Verify button hashes your install against it and tells you exactly which files differ or are missing, instead of leaving you to reinstall on a hunch when something looks wrong.
Two things worth knowing before you press it:
- It takes a few minutes -- it is reading your whole FFXI folder.
- Differences are not automatically bad. HD texture packs and other DAT mods look exactly like "files differ". If you installed those, that is your install working as intended.
Your FFXI can live anywhere
Until now the launcher found your FFXI install through the retail installer's registry entries, and if it could not, there was no good way to tell it where the game actually is -- clients copied to another drive launched against a folder that was not there.
Now the first-run wizard offers Browse for the game folder when nothing is detected, Settings → Game files → Change folder works the same way after setup, and the launcher checks that the folder you picked really is an FFXI install before accepting it. The folder you pick is the folder the game launches from, gets verified against, everything.
Update from the title bar as usual -- the launcher will offer 0.9.1 on its own.
