The fight finds you: auto-target that actually works
When your target dies mid-pull, you now swing straight onto the next enemy your party is fighting — even the one behind you. Weapon out, no camera dance, out to about 28 yalms. A new addon, dwengage, does the turning; the launcher installs it for you.
Retail auto-target has a rule it never tells you about: it only hands you the next enemy if you already happen to be facing it. Kill the first mob of a double pull with the second one behind you and you just stand there, weapon twitching, while it works on your healer — until you swing the camera around and the game deigns to notice.
DriftwoodXI now finishes the thought. When your target dies, the server looks for the nearest enemy that is already fighting your party — you, your party members, their trusts and pets — in any direction, out to about 28 yalms, and hands it to you: targeted, faced, weapon still drawn. Your auto-attack carries straight into the next fight until nothing on the pull is left.
The polite exceptions are deliberate:
- A slept mob is never picked. If your bard has the add locked down, the server will not spin you around to break the crowd control. (The retail facing rule still applies if you point yourself at it — that part is on you.)
- A stranger's mob is never picked. Only enemies with hate on your party count, so you cannot be swung onto someone else's fight.
- `/assist` is untouched. The new behaviour only fires when your own target dies mid-fight.
Two switches, both yours:
- The in-game Auto Target config option still rules everything. Turn it off and the server never re-targets you at all, exactly as retail.
- The turning is done by a small new addon, dwengage — no window, nothing to learn. The launcher installs it and switches it on by default;
/dwengagetoggles it for a session, and the launcher's Addons tab turns it off for good if you prefer retail behaviour.
Your launcher fetches the addon on its own within a few hours of this post — or restart the launcher and it arrives at the next Play.
