The Drift Exchange: your coins buy augments now
The storefront the Drift Board was banking coins for is open. Four augments a day, rotating on the Vana'diel clock, applied straight onto gear already in your bags -- or into the bags of a character you are not logged into. Augmented gear becomes yours: no auction house, no trade, no bazaar.
When the Drift Board went in we told you to bank the coins. The thing they were for is open.
The Drift Exchange sells augments. Not augment materials, not a stone you carry to an NPC — the augment itself, applied to a piece of gear that is already in your bags, the moment you pay for it. Four offers a day, rotating every Vana'diel day on the same clock the contracts roll on, from a curated pool rather than a random one.
How it works
`` !drift augments today's four offers and what they cost !drift slots Bronze Sword how many of its 4 augment slots are used !drift augment x1 Bronze Sword what that would cost, and where it lands !drift confirm buy it ``
Nothing is bought in one line. !drift augment quotes — it tells you the price, shows you the item's four slots, names the slot the augment will land in, and warns you if that slot already has something in it. !drift confirm is the only line that spends. Ask as many times as you like; the asking is free.
Four slots, and what "replace" means
Every piece of equipment has four augment slots. Gear that already came with augments — from a treasure casket, say — arrives with some of them used, and that is fine: an item with one, two or three augments is a perfectly good candidate for another.
When all four are full, you can still buy, but you have to say which one you are painting over:
`` !drift augment x1 Bronze Sword #2 replace slot 2 ``
The augment in that slot is gone. The quote says so before you confirm, in those words.
An item will not take the same augment twice. If your sword already has Accuracy+8 in slot 1, the Exchange refuses to sell you Accuracy+8 for slot 3 rather than quietly taking the coins for a duplicate.
Your alts' gear, without logging in
@Name points the whole thing at a character you are not logged into:
`` !drift augment x1 @Yakapo Ash Staff ``
That is the same trick !squad and the dwbags window use, and it exists for the same reason: your alt-trusts fight with the gear in their bags, and gearing them should not mean six logins. They have to be logged out — one live session per account is a FFXI rule, not ours — and they will be carrying the augment the next time you summon them.
Augmented gear is yours
This is the part to read before you spend anything.
An augmented item becomes account-exclusive. It cannot be sold on the auction house, traded to another player, or put in a bazaar. It can be posted through the delivery box to your own characters — that is the whole point of augmenting an alt's gear — but not to anybody else's.
That is how retail treats augments, and it is what makes the Exchange something other than a gil printer. It also fixes something that was quietly broken long before any of this: the auction house has never been able to carry augments, so an augmented item listed there did not sell its augments, it destroyed them. It refuses the listing now.
And it has a window
Everything above is also a tab in /quests now — today's offers with their prices, a picker fed by your own bags and your alts', the four-slot view and the two-step buy, all clickable. See The Drift Exchange gets a window.
The typed commands are not a workaround for the window and the window is not a replacement for them: they are the same server verbs, which is true of every addon on this server.
Contracts, coins and the board are unchanged. /quests still opens the board, !drift still prints it, and every number either of them shows is still a number the server said.
Something looks wrong? /report reaches us from in game with your real state attached, and discord.gg/DriftwoodGaming is the second-shortest path.
