DRIFTWOODXI

Every swing counts — combat skills without the grind

Every swing rolls for a skill-up — hit or miss — and every roll under your cap lands. A fresh weapon catches up in a session, and your main is never the weakest member of his own party.

Retail's meanest loop hides in plain sight: fall behind in weapon skill and you miss more; miss, and the game teaches you nothing. Skill-ups only roll when the blade lands, so the player who most needs them is exactly the one the game refuses to give them to. Pick up a new weapon type at 60 and you've bought yourself a week of whiffing at worms.

DriftwoodXI cuts that loop twice.

Every swing rolls for a skill-up — hit or miss. Your character learns from the swing, not the scoreboard. A whiffed round is still practice, which means a low-skill weapon climbs fastest exactly when your accuracy is worst — the death spiral runs in reverse here.

And every roll under your cap lands. No lucky evenings, no dry hours. While a combat or magic skill sits below its cap, swinging moves it — every time. The size of each tick scales with how far behind you are: way under cap means big ticks, the last few points arrive in tenths. A fresh weapon climbs like a rocket and lands like a feather.

The fine print, such as it is:

  • Weapons — swing and climb. Dual wielding two different weapon types? Both climb as you go.
  • Magic — every cast counts the same way, for every school under its cap.
  • Defence — Evasion, Parry, Shield and Guard ride the same rule when the mob swings at you, and Parry, Block and Guard don't need the textbook situation retail demanded — regular combat trains them.
  • The ceiling hasn't moved an inch. Skill caps are retail: A+ sword is still A+ sword, and your level still gates your rating. You reach the ceiling by playing — the ceiling itself is not for sale.

One more thing, because this server is built around your squad: your summoned characters arrive with their skills already topped up for their level — that's their job. Yours now catch up as fast as you can fight, and you're the one holding the gear, the consumables and the brain. The main character is meant to be the strongest member of the party on DriftwoodXI. Now the skill panel agrees.
