Close the wiki tab
The quest tracker is in. Open a quest and see its steps, with the one you are on lit up — read from your real progress on this server, never from a wiki.
FFXI has always been a two-monitor game: the game on one screen, a wiki full of ads on the other, because the game never tells you what to do next. DriftwoodXI now does.
`/dwt` opens the tracker. Four tabs — active quests, active missions, completed both. Open an active entry and its steps are listed in order: the ones you have done in dim text, the one you are on lit up, the rest waiting. Do the step and it greys out; the next one lights; finish the quest and it moves itself to Completed. The window follows you as you play — no refresh button worship required, though the button is there.
Two things make this different from reading a walkthrough:
- It is reading this server. The steps come from the same scripts the quests actually run on here, not from a wiki describing some other server's version. Where DriftwoodXI differs from what you remember, the tracker is right and the memory is not.
- It never guesses. The server checks your real progress — the same flags and key items the quest itself checks — and lights exactly one step. If it cannot place you cleanly, it says so and lights nothing, which beats being pointed somewhere wrong. A quest with no guide written yet still shows up; it just lists its name.
Every mission line and every quest on the current surface has its guide in — 443 of them, each one written from the script it tracks.
It is on by default in the launcher's addon set. It renders what the server asserts and nothing else — turn it off and your journal is still your journal, and !dwt sync typed by hand shows you exactly what the window would have been told.
One promise, and please hold us to it: the tracker must never show you a wrong step. "No guide yet" is fine, "unclear" is honest, but if a lit step ever disagrees with what the quest actually wants, that is the one bug we want reported immediately.
