DWUnleashed
A famous Legend-tier monster breaks loose in the open world every few hours — no claim, no party, and every account that takes part is paid at the kill.
DWUnleashed is the world boss, opened with /unleashed: every two to three hours one of the Nemesis roster’s Legend-tier notorious monsters breaks loose at one of twenty-two outdoor sites across Vana’diel, each anchored within sight of an outpost or a home point, and the whole server is told which monster and where — the zone and the landmark, never the coordinates, and never when, because the spawn clock is hidden and the announcement is the only warning anybody gets. For ten minutes it stands passive and unkillable while people port in and form up, then a second broadcast says it woke. It answers to no claim: there is no party to join and no alliance to form, anyone standing in the zone may strike it, heal the people striking it or buff them, and it shrugs off all but five percent of what lands until four different ACCOUNTS have joined the fight — accounts, not characters, because the gate exists to require people and a six-box is one person — after which it stays open whatever happens to the people who opened it. Its health is drawn from how many players are online at the moment it stands up, from about a quarter of a million on a quiet night to nearly two million on a full one, and it regenerates a slice of whatever the crowd is dealing, so a bigger turnout shortens the fight without trivialising it and a small one is never regen-locked; the server calls out half health and a tenth. Nothing is paid at the spawn, at the wake, at half health or on a withdrawal — only the kill pays, and then every account that spent a minute on its hate list or dealt a real share of the damage is paid Drift Coins on the spot: forty-five, plus one for every paid account past the sixth up to seventy-five, and your first Unleashed kill of a Japanese day pays double — ninety, rising to a hundred and fifty. On top of the coins, every paid account also gets a flat hundred Driftmarks for the DWRaid shop, the same hundred on every kill, first of the day or not. Healers and buffers qualify without swinging once, and somebody who died at three percent and home-pointed has already earned it. Every paid account also rolls once for an Esper Core, the currency DWEsper makes Espers with, with a quiet pity so nobody stays dry for long. Nothing drops on the ground; the coins, the Driftmarks and the Cores are the reward, and all of them land in your wallet rather than your bags. While an Unleashed stands, the home point or outpost its site is anchored to is free for anyone already attuned to it — the fare is waived, the unlock is not. At the kill the whole server hears five lines in one burst: top damage and its share, top hate, the final blow, first blood and the turnout. A weekly Drift Board contract asks you to answer three of them for ninety coins, credited by the pay rather than the kill, and two leaderboard boards keep the score — Unleashed answered, and Unleashed top damage. The window’s History tab lists the last five events with their turnout, coins and callouts, and a Cores column counting the Esper Cores each kill handed out (a dash for events from before the server counted them). If nobody comes it slips away with no pay and no callouts and returns on a short clock instead of the full two to three hours. Everything here also works typed as !unleashed or !unl.
