The seats of power: the Crown, four Mayors and the Royal Treasurer, each won by a vote of every account.

DWPolitics is the ballot box, opened with /politics: six seats of power — the Crown of Vana'diel, the Mayors of Bastok, San d'Oria, Windurst and Jeuno, and the Royal Treasurer — each won by a vote of every eligible account on a four-week season clock: a week of nominations, a week of campaigning, a 72-hour secret ranked-choice poll, the count, then governing. Office is a ladder: a full term as Mayor of Bastok, San d'Oria or Windurst comes before a filing for Mayor of Jeuno, and a full term as Mayor of Jeuno comes before a filing for the Crown. The gates are the server's and they are steep: fame 9 in the town and twenty Drift Board contracts for a town Mayor, fame 9 in Jeuno and a million gil for Jeuno, 100 in every craft or a market record for the Treasurer, and for the Crown one of the Gauntlet's floor 50, the Last Verse or a Legend Nemesis kill — and the Crown's winner needs two Mayors behind it or the throne stays with the Regent. Candidates file with a fee held until the count, set a platform, and may pledge gil that is split among everyone who votes in their race if they win. Accounts that share a login address share one base vote. The winners hold real levers, each a bounded pick with a cooldown and a public record: the Crown's 24-hour decrees (more experience, capacity points or fame, cheaper shops, free chocobos), indictments that mark an account Wanted with a fine, pardons and a Public Enemy bounty, up to five Knights of the Realm who wear a title for the reign, a mercenary holiday that drops the board's cut to the lowest the board takes for a day, and an amnesty that closes every open indictment; a Mayor's week-long festival in their town, town halls, a home teleport and the outpost-warp fee where their nation holds the region; the Mayor of Jeuno's tolls on home-point warps into Jeuno; the Treasurer's mercenary cut, travel fees, a login stimulus and a Drift Coin bonus. Every rate moves at most once every twenty hours, and every holder may send one proclamation per seat in that same span, from a fixed menu of lines the server fills in. The travel levers run from 20 to 2000 percent of the stock price and every gil charged above the stock price is split in half — half to that office's holder personally, half burned out of the game, the mercenary cut above its stock 35 percent included — and every gil of it is public and permanent in the window's Revenue tab: per-seat totals for the season and for all time, the realm's burn, the last payments naming who paid which seat how much, and every rate change that priced them. Every act is a tagged broadcast and a line in the Chronicle, an append-only history nothing edits, and a holder wears a client title for the seat. The owner can veto any act and can freeze every power at once, which stands the live ones down and puts every rate back to stock until it is lifted — elections run either way. Everything here also works typed as !politics.
