Stop teleporting twice: the travel window

The new dwport addon puts every teleport you have unlocked in one window. Type /port, click where you are going. Home points, survival guides, outposts and the teleport spells in tabs, the locked ones greyed so you know what is left to earn, and the fees exactly what the NPC would charge.

Getting around Vana'diel has never been the hard part -- the menus are. The home point wants a menu, a sub-menu and a confirmation. The survival book wants you standing at the book. The outpost warp wants the right guard in the right city, and the teleport spells want a white mage, a macro and a party that stopped moving. Half the time the honest answer was !home first and a second teleport from there -- two teleports to go one place.

From today there is one window instead. The dwport addon ships with the server, is on in the Default set, and opens with /port (or by typing !port on its own).

What it does

Four tabs, one per travel system, plus a Home button that is the free !home warp you already know:

  • Home points -- every crystal you have attuned, one click, the same fee the crystal charges (free inside your own city's group, cheaper everywhere with Rhapsody in White).
  • Survival guides -- every book you have registered. 1,000 gil, exactly as at the book.
  • Outposts -- every region your outpost warp reaches. You start with nearly all of these.
  • Teleport -- the six Teleport spells and the three Recalls. If you, or a white mage in your squad, can genuinely cast one -- crystal attuned, spell learned, level reached, MP in the pool -- one click casts it, and the MP is really spent.

A search box filters every tab at once, a star pins your regulars to the top, and your last five journeys sit under the header as one-click buttons.

What it deliberately does not do

The window never widens what you can reach. A crystal you have not touched, a book you have not read, a region whose supply run you have not done, a spell you cannot cast -- they are all still in the list, greyed, with the reason written on them, and no amount of clicking turns a grey row into a button. The unlock is the gameplay; the window only deletes the menu maze that came after it. The server checks every trip against your real unlocks, so this holds even if an addon misbehaves.

No window? No problem. Everything works typed: !port list hp, !port go sg 42, !port jeuno, !port home. Turning the addon off costs you the buttons and nothing else.

The launcher will fetch dwport on its own the next time it checks content -- there is nothing to install. If the window does not open, the addon is switched off: launcher, Addons tab, switch on dwport, or type /addon load dwport where you stand.

One more thing worth saying plainly: with this one we stopped counting our addons in the copy. The website used to say "nine" -- it now says "many", because there will be more.
