DWFame: all your fame, one window
Fame drives half of what Vana'diel will let you do, and retail makes you walk to a different NPC in every city to hear a riddle about it. The new dwfame addon shows every fame area as a progress bar, tells you exactly how far the next level is, and its Guide tab names the fastest repeatable quest for each one.
Fame is one of the most important numbers in Final Fantasy XI and one of the hardest to see. It decides which quests will talk to you, which shops undercut their own prices, whether the Tenshodo takes you seriously — and the game never shows it. Retail's answer is a fame-checker NPC in each region who paraphrases your standing in prose, which means a trip per city every time you wonder "am I there yet?"
DWFame is the new answer, and it ships today. Type /fame and every fame area in the game is on screen at once.
What you get
- A progress bar per area — San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst, Jeuno, Selbina and Rabao, Norg, all nine Abyssea zones and Adoulin. Each bar shows your fame level, your exact points, and precisely how many points the next level needs. The numbers come from the server's own fame arithmetic — the same values the quest scripts branch on — so the window can never disagree with what an NPC will actually do.
- A Guide tab that knows this server. For each area it names the fastest repeatable way up: the quest, the NPC, the exact items and counts, and what each turn-in pays. Every entry was verified against this server's own quest scripts, not copied off a wiki — if the guide says Secodiand takes two Bat Wings for 10 fame, that is what the script pays.
- It tells you when a level lands. Fame changes silently in retail. With the window closed or open, when a sync comes back a level higher, dwfame says so in chat — "San d'Oria fame reached level 5!" — per character, with no false fanfare on alts.
- A "closest next level" sort, for the days you just want the cheapest fame level available anywhere.
- The derived areas explain themselves. Jeuno fame rises with your three nation fames; Selbina/Rabao is the average of San d'Oria and Bastok and has no counter of its own. The window says so on the bars, so nobody grinds a town whose bar cannot move from inside it.
How to open it
Type /fame (or /dwfame, or !fame). Type it again to close it. The launcher installs and updates dwfame automatically and it joins the Default addon set, so for most of you it is already there — if nothing opens, switch it on in the launcher's Addons tab, or load it where you stand with /addon load dwfame.
No addon, no problem
Like every DriftwoodXI addon, dwfame is a window over a typed command, never a gate. !fame in chat prints the same ledger in prose — all sixteen areas, levels, points and distances — from any client, addon or not. !dwf sync shows the raw records the window renders, if you ever want to check its homework.
